The Swinging Swallows Square Dance Club Folks in the Ottawa
Valley have been dancing modern squares since the early 1960's
(or before), but the Swinging Swallows began their club in
the fall of 1987. Members of the Club have made many friendships
that extend beyond dancing nights.
There are 54 clubs consisting
of approximately 2,000 dancers registered with the Eastern
Ontario Square and Round Dance Association. The Eastern Ontario
region runs from Kingston in the west to the Quebec border
in the east and to the U. S. border in the south. To the north
it includes the Outaouais region of Quebec.
Where We Dance
The Swinging Swallows gather on Thursday evenings at 7:00pm
at Wesley United Church Fellowship Hall at 275 Pembroke Street
East in Pembroke. The Hall is an excellent facility that provides
two floors for dancing, if needed, and the use of a kitchen.
There is ample parking in the rear of the Church. Our two and
a half hour sessions accommodate new and veteran dancers, all
of whom enjoy the physical and mental workout that comes with
modern square dancing.
How To Join
The Club has an annual membership
drive every September. We hold several Open House nights and
invite people to come and see what modern square dancing is
all about as it is quite different from traditional square
dancing. (For more information on how the dancing is different,
visit the “About Modern Square Dancing” link on
the top of the page.)
Dance nights are comprised of lessons
and dancing what has been taught, then practice, practice,
practice! It's not long before the new dancer is feeling like
an old pro!
Our membership is quite varied in ages and abilities,
with everyone enjoying the fun and friendship that is offered.
Exercising couldn't be more fun!
